Wearable balloon costumes can be a fun way to get the family excited about the upcoming holiday. Simple family Halloween costumes are easy to make. All you need is some inspiration and creativity. This post breaks down balloon Halloween costumes to try with the kids and ways to make inflatable costumes work for you.

Seeing your kids transform into their favorite characters can be a great way to get their imagination going.
Dressing up for Halloween can be fun when you put your mind to it. With kids, it’s a lot more exciting because their joy becomes your own.
Easy Balloon Halloween Costume Ideas
Buying a costume every year can get costly. With easy costume ideas like DIY projects, you can minimize your spending.
Inflatable costumes from the store can be inexpensive, but sometimes they can be good for a one-time use. Much like using wearable Halloween costumes, you may not be able to use the inflatable one again.
With the use of custom options like the tying and twisting ones, you can create a number of designs for you and your family this Halloween.
The materials for such costumes will cost you a couple of dollars and you can get creative with it. Here are four ideas you can use for the kids:
1. Bath time bubbles.

Use white ones and stick rubber ducks on them. You can add props like a shower cap or a shower brush.
2. Skittles or M&M’s

Grab a variety pack and blow them up. Write the letter “M” for M&M’s candy or “S” for Skittles. Either one you choose, you’ll still be a delicious treat.
3. Grapes
Using green or purple balloons, you can create one of the sweetest fruits out there. Stick each one together using balloon glue and you’ve got yourself an easy yet clever design as a balloon Halloween costume.

Grab a clear trash bag, a set of small colorful balloons, and a ribbon. Be sure to measure the bag for your feet and cut holes to insert.
4. A bag of jelly beans

Best Inflatable Costumes
Finding the right costumes for you and your family can be tricky. If you decide that creating a costume out of balloons isn’t for you, then you can always try an inflatable one.
With a variety of options available at retailers such as Amazon, Party City, Target, and Walmart, you can score the best deals out there.
How Do Inflatable Costumes Work?
Using an inflatable piece is a lot easier than you think. There are three key features to help an inflatable costume work.
- Airtight material
- Battery-operated blower
- A drawstring or zipper
In essence, these are a lot like the balloon Halloween costumes mentioned above.
With the use of a battery-operated blower, air is pushed through your costume. Once you’ve adjusted the zipper or straps so that it’s airtight, you can turn on the blower.
To remove the blow-up costume, you’ll need to do the opposite. Turn off the blower, and loosen the zipper or straps to release the air.
Although you can opt for an inflatable costume to wear for Halloween, there are Christmas options as well.
This inflatable snowman costume is perfect for both occasions. There’s also a Santa picking up an elf one that is funny.
Are Inflatable Costumes Hot To Wear?
The airtight material can be tough to wear for kids. Although there is air being blown throughout, the concept of weather comes into play.
Much like wearing any costume, you’ll need to consider outdoor temperatures when putting on an inflatable costume.
The ones that cover your face can be tricky to wear. However, the costumes that only cover half of your body, like a person sitting on a unicorn, are easier to wear.
How Long Do Inflatable Costumes Last?
The blower in the costume lasts anywhere from 2 to 4 hours. The material itself can last longer than a day if cared for properly.
Washing the costume requires a soft rag (microfleece is fine) and dish soap. Wet the rag, wring dry and add a small amount of dish soap.
Dab the dirty section with the rag and use the spot cleaning technique to remove it. Never throw the costume into the washer, and always air dry the product.

Oh, these are so cute! I remember years ago seeing a Lady Gaga costume that involved balloons, but probably not the best for a child 😉 While they didn't involve balloons, one year my mom turned my dance recital outfit into a mime's costume. Looking back, that was pretty ingenious!
Your mom is very talented. Those dance recital costumes are expensive and they're perfect for Halloween. Sometimes they fit a theme, but you can always alter them for your enjoyment.
