If you just sat in on today’s discussion I applaud you, and I thank you for your time. 🙂
But for those of you who need a quick recap on how to create and get the most out of your media kit, this post is for you.
I recently shared insights on why bloggers need a media kit, and today’s discussion was a continuation of that post. You can read that post here.
The 30-minute presentation on media kit tips shared thoughts on how bloggers can benefit from creating a media kit as well as the 5 things to include, which are:
1. Brief introduction. You want to include information about your blog and the things you write, this way if a PR rep or a company is looking to work with you, they can decide whether or not to scan the rest of your media kit.
2. Stats. Adding your social media followers is a nice-to-know, but what most companies want to see is how many readers actually engage with your website on a monthly basis. Include stats on monthly page views, monthly page visits, and subscribers. If you have a blog on WordPress.com and would like to add Google Analytics, check out my step-by-step tutorial over here.
One thing I do to keep tabs on my blog stats is I keep a running document on Google Drive with all my information. From possible topics for future blog posts to current campaigns, this helps me keep tabs on important events and dates, as well as watch my blog grow.
3. Topics discussed. To make it easier for PR reps and companies to get to know you and your blog, you will need to add a quick description of the topics you share on a weekly basis. This helps PR reps and companies know whether or not your website is a fit for current or upcoming campaigns.
4. Links. It is important to share links to your social profiles, this way PR reps and companies can get to know how you share posts on a daily basis and the type of content you share with your followers.
5. Design. Now that you have all the information you will need to share with PR reps and companies, you should think of the look and feel of your blog. Most professional bloggers recommend using the same design and/or color scheme as your blog. This helps PR reps and companies remember you and creates a sense of professionalism. The good thing about gathering all the information is, you could everything you would like to include in your media kit to a graphic designer and have them do the rest of the work. 😉
I hope you enjoyed today’s presentation. Thank you for joining me on my very first Google+ Hangout On Air. I promise the next one will be better!
