I understand why people make a huge deal out of their wedding day. From the venue down to the shoes they will be wearing, it’s all about making their day special.

But what if you’ve already had special days with your significant other, do you try to trump the rest with a huge wedding?

I’ve known for three years that I wanted to marry Jeff, but we’ve been busy living our lives with our boys to ever really think of it as “the next best thing.”
To us, marriage is more of an icing on the cake. For me, it was always something I wanted for my future; a wedding that leads to a beautiful ending with my family.  Things didn’t go as I planned. We had a child before the wedding bells rang, and although it was a crime in some of our families’ eyes, it has been a blessing in ours.
Life With Our Boys

For some people, building a family before saying the words “I do” is a mortal sin. For us, it’s been a blessing, and we’ve already embraced the responsibilities of husband and wife with our little family.
Our son has been the glue, our Superman as I called him in a post. You can read all about our journey and how Sebastian has made it worthwhile over here
And then there’s our pup, Rocky, also known as the baby trainer. He landed on our doorstep before we even knew how to care for a newborn. And it’s been a crazy ride ever since. You can read all about Rocky, our baby trainer, in this previous post: http://www.motherhoodthroughmyeyes.com/2013/09/our-trainer-rocky.html
Now we’re on our second pregnancy and we’ve never been more excited to complete our family. With another boy on the way, and being one of four — with three brothers — it’s safe to say that I’ll forever be surrounded by men. And I don’t mind it one bit.
They Say Nothing Changes
After our ceremony, I had been chatting with Jeff’s cousin and I casually told her we just got married. She asked how I felt and we both agreed that after so much time together, a wedding doesn’t really change anything. I agreed, but our last names have.
But there’s more…
I woke up today (the day after the ceremony) thinking about how much happiness being wife has brought to me. Not since yesterday, but since the day we took on every responsibility in our lives. From our pup to our second child. We’ve been able to build a wonderful life without  a tangible foundation of marriage. The concept of marriage has always been present, but now we can say that we’re legally married.
I’m Mrs. Torres, and I love Jeff for all that he’s done and continues to do for our family. And I try to show him every single day of our lives together.
And I’m off to continue celebrating our mini vacation together, and of course, life with our boys.
