This post highlights my experience at the Summer presentation, Cirque Éloize Cirkopolis. The show is now playing at the Adrienne Arsht Center in Miami until July 31st. I received free access to the show and a chance to go backstage to meet the cast in exchange for my honest opinion of my experience.

My parents are in town so it was only fair that I took a night off from baby talk and answering all of our threenager’s questions. Fortunately, my mom is a huge fan of the performing arts and has been dying for me to show her downtown Miami.

And somehow we managed to fuse the two and make it a girls’ night.

We snapped this before the show.

When I heard about the Cirque Eloize Cirkopolis arriving at the Adrienne Arsht Center in downtown Miami, I thought it would be interesting to watch. And that it was.

Curtains Up
After some wine and a playbill in hand, we were ready to head backstage to meet with Joel Baker, the Clown. Joel was a great host and answered questions about the show, and its cast. He even shared fun facts about the 12 international members of the show.

For those of you who don’t know what Cirkopolis is, it’s a feast for the senses, as noted on the Adrienne Arsht Center website. There’s a little of everything in this production: happy and sad moments, and even terrifying ones as you watch the cast perform unbelievable stunts in front of a live audience.

There were moments I was afraid to clap because I didn’t want to break their concentration.

Some men worship the ground you walk on, others allow you to walk all over them. #Cirkopolis

We really enjoyed ourselves that night, and my mom couldn’t get over how exciting it was to watch these performers nail each stunt. Joel told us they practice every day, and it really shows.

Cirkopolis is a story of a man who isn’t really enjoying his day-to-day life. He’s practically tied to his desk, filing paperwork, and dreams of a little excitement.

Right before your eyes, the performers breathe life into his dreams, making them a reality with flying acrobats, dancers, jugglers, and so much more. You’ll have to catch the show yourself to see the story unfold at the Adrienne Arsht Center.
