I’d be lying if I said it didn’t cross my mind that my husband needed a girl, but I didn’t know just how much it would mean to him.
My husband has always been surrounded by girls — his nieces and women in general — but it wasn’t until I found out we were expecting our firstborn that it came to mind.
Before Our Girl
We planned our second pregnancy because we wanted our firstborn to have a sibling who he could form a bond. Having our two boys was a blessing for us, and we thought we were complete.
Never once did we think, “let’s try for a girl” because trying for a baby was enough. You hear stories of women who have issues carrying a child and we never wanted to be the type to want something that was out of our hands.
Shortly after purchasing our home my husband and I found out we were expecting. Finding out we were going to be parents of a third child was terrifying. I expressed myself in a previous post, feel free to read it here.
To feel your body go through the same things it had been through before can be exciting. After all, you know what to expect. I knew I was pregnant before the test results and I knew I’d carry a girl. I remember telling my husband how if I were pregnant for the third time, then we’d end up with a girl. Neither one of us were looking to find out if that was true, but there were other plans for us.
After Our Girl
Heading to the hospital three times only to be sent home each visit was heartbreaking. After the fourth, we were sent home with our baby girl in our arms. Exciting as it may sound, I can’t express the excitement I saw in my husband’s face the first time he looked at her. He fell in love and I couldn’t imagine life without that excitement on his face.
Here’s a recent post I shared about it:

Today, she fits right in with the boys — except she loves her space. At times, she reminds me of myself (I grew up with boys as well). I can’t wait to watch her grow up with her boys. Oh, and yes she wears hand-me-downs from the boys here and there.
