If someone told me five years ago that I’d be driving a minivan, I wouldn’t have thought they were crazy. Honestly, I learned how to drive in my parents’ minivan and it was the most comfortable vehicle we had growing up.
But that’s not the only thing I love about being a mom. In fact, I probably enjoy being a mom way too much. I love doing silly things with our boys and keeping them entertained with just about anything.
Yes, there are moments I would rather stay in, and sometimes these are during family gatherings, but I remind myself of how important it is for the boys to enjoy the moment.
Today is Embrace Your Geekness Day and I couldn’t just let it slip away without sharing the geekiness I have learned to embrace as a mom. Here are three of them:
1. Baking (or doing anything in the kitchen)
I knew I liked cooking back in high school when I took a culinary arts class. We learned a lot about baking and preparing meals, but never did I imagine that I would be enjoying it as a mom. You know what they say, love is the best ingredient.
2. Cleaning.
One of the biggest stress relievers in my life has been cleaning/organizing our home. I will admit that I don’t do it as often as I would like, but I’m trying my best to keep things more organized these days. I’ve always enjoyed cleaning and doing it as often as possible is rewarding. I mean, who doesn’t like a clean home?
3. Shopping.
It might sound surprising to those who know me, but I actually enjoy shopping. There’s a sense of freedom knowing that I get to decide what my family eats. Oftentimes it’s healthy, but we do pick up treats here and there. Those checkout aisles are dangerous.
Is there anything geeky about you that you’d like to celebrate? Tell me about it over on Twitter.

Singing out loud! I'm a terrible singer but always have a song stuck in my head. I've learned it's fun to sing with the kids. They either enjoy it and dance with me or they are totally annoyed and I take the opportunity to harass them by singing EVEN LOUDER. Either way, it's a win-win! ๐
Love this! Although I am not a mother yet, I can completely relate to the cleaning. When I am thinking hard on something I just clean. When I'm mad I clean. Makes for a great use of time ๐
Haha love this. Not yet a mama myself but one day I'll be the exact same!
This was a great read ๐ I never considered myself a geeky mom, but I may be moving in that direction, haha! It's a great thing to embrace. My 11 month old daughter laughs a lot, so I find myself laughing as loud and silly as I can to get a smile or laugh out of her, it is something I treasure in the moment!
Being active with my son! Whether we are working out at home or going on family walks, it makes it slightly more challenging with a little one running around your feet!

I love singing things. Like things you would say, I like to sing. I know. Totally geeky, but I love it.
I also love grocery shopping! And I don't like cleaning/organizing but I do love how accomplished I feel after I do it. Keep on geeking, mama!
