Most fussy babies are looking for your attention. Recognizing your child’s needs is important.

To be honest, parenting at first seems like walking into the jungle and being asked to tame the monkeys. When they’re young, it’s exciting.

As your child gets older, it becomes difficult to have them sit still. With age comes curiosity, and nothing is more stressful than a child running around getting into trouble.

You almost forget the importance of a peaceful environment for yourself and your child.

Newborn Care After Delivery

Taking care of newborn sounds like an easy task. However, when I had my firstborn I didn’t know what I was doing the first night.

With time, I learned what each cry meant. I also noticed there were a handful of things my partner and I needed to do to keep a newborn calm.

Here’s a rundown of the baby care tips for new moms that worked for us:

We created a peaceful environment

I’m not a music junkie, but I knew classical music would calm our son because we use the same method for our husky while we’re out. I’d play classical music for our kids before birth.

We always checked the diaper first

Most of the time babies feel uncomfortable because they just pooped themselves, wouldn’t you? Sitting in a soiled diaper isn’t fun.

Deal with the crap first. It helps your child feel more comfortable and helps them relax.

We paid close attention to patterns

You’re going to be nervous with your first child. You might even get frustrated — more so at night.

You must remember that your baby is crying because they have a need that hasn’t been met. For our firstborn, it was typically the pattern was to change his diaper, feed him, burp him, and he’d go back to sleep.

The goal is to create a peaceful environment by meeting your child’s needs.

Once our son would wake up, I’d start the cycle again. Sometimes he’d stay awake after being burped.

NOTE: I did notice this pattern worked best while he was a newborn. That’s all they really do.

With time, he’d interact more with the people and things around him.

We rested when the baby did

You’ve probably heard this a million times, and I agree. It’s tough in the beginning because you’ll find that the baby sleeps for about an hour or two and wakes up screaming for you.

You’ll think “how will I manage my time?”

Time management is critical when you’re a mom.

Before I gave birth to my firstborn, I asked moms how they’d make time to do personal things such as blowdry their hair, paint their nails.

No one really gave me a straight answer. There were moments I’d have to sneak away to do these things.

I’ll leave him with my husband or wait ’til it’s late at night when I know he won’t wake up for a good 5-6 hours to do something I wanted to do in the daytime.

It’s not easy, but being a mom comes naturally. Every baby is different, so test these tips out, and see which one works for you and your family.

Newborn Care Basics To Keep In Mind

Aside from the newborn tips above, there are basic care needs that every new mom must know. For instance, holding your child’s head properly will help your little one strengthen their neck.

Not touching the top of their head is important. The baby’s bones are still developing and it’s best to hand a newborn with care.

Cleaning the umbilical cord with alcohol will help it dry up and fall off. During this time, you can only bathe your child with a wet cloth.

Your child will feed often and need to be burped right after. This will help remove the gases in their stomach.

Learning to properly swaddle your baby will help keep them warm at night and while they nap. It gives your newborn the feeling of being in your belly.
